Editorial Commentary: Iliotibial Band Allograft Shows Promise for Arthroscopic Hip Labral Reconstruction

Arthroscopy. 2016 Jan;32(1):33. doi: 10.1016/j.arthro.2015.11.010.

Abstract

Arthroscopic hip labral reconstruction using iliotibial band allograft in a modified front-to-back technique results in improved outcomes after 2-year follow-up. The authors' reasoning for reconstruction are reminiscent of similar arguments for restoring hoop stresses in knee meniscal surgery. Results are comparable to reported outcomes of labral repair, and allograft is particularly indicated for severe labral damage when repair is not possible.
