Conserved Protein Domain Family
RING-HC_dBre1-like

?
cd16705: RING-HC_dBre1-like
RING finger, HC subclass, found in Drosophila melanogaster Bre1 (dBre1) and similar proteins
dBre1 is the functional homolog of yeast Bre1, an E3 ubiquitin ligase required for the monoubiquitination of histone H2B and, indirectly, for H3K4 methylation. dBre1 acts as a nuclear component required for the expression of Notch target genes in Drosophila development. dBre1 contains a C3HC4-type RING-HC finger at its C-terminus.

Evidence:
  • Comment:based on the structure of human BRE1A with bound Zn2+ ions through its RING-HC finger
  • Comment:C3HC4-type RING-HC finger consensus motif: C-X2-C-X(9-39)-C-X(1-3)-H-X(2-3)-C-X2-C-X(4-48)-C-X2-C, where X is any amino acid and the number of X residues varies in different fingers
  • Comment:A RING finger typically binds two zinc atoms, with its Cys and/or His side chains in a unique "cross-brace" arrangement.
