Conserved Protein Domain Family
RING-HC_RNF151

?
cd16547: RING-HC_RNF151
RING finger, HC subclass, found in RING finger protein 151 (RNF151) and similar proteins
RNF151 is a testis-specific RING finger protein that interacts with dysbindin, a synaptic and microtubular protein that binds brain snapin, a SNARE-binding protein that mediates intracellular membrane fusion in both neuronal and non-neuronal cells. Thus, it may be involved in acrosome formation of spermatids by interacting with multiple proteins participating in membrane biogenesis and microtubule organization. RNF151 contains a C3HC4-type RING finger domain, a putative nuclear localization signal (NLS), and a TNF receptor associated factor (TRAF)-type zinc finger domain.

Evidence:
  • Comment:based on the structures of other RING-HC fingers with bound zinc
  • Comment:C3HC4-type RING-HC finger consensus motif: C-X2-C-X(9-39)-C-X(1-3)-H-X(2-3)-C-X2-C-X(4-48)-C-X2-C, where X is any amino acid and the number of X residues varies in different fingers
  • Comment:A RING finger typically binds two zinc atoms, with its Cys and/or His side chains in a unique "cross-brace" arrangement.
