Bcl-2-binding component 3, p53 upregulated modulator of apoptosis
PUMA (p53 upregulated modulator of apoptosis) is a family of eukaryotic proteins that are a target for activation by p53. The proteins contain BH3 domains and are induced in cells after p53 activation. They bind to Bcl-2, localize to the mitochondria to induce cytochrome c release, and activate the rapid induction of apoptosis.
