Halobacteria
From a nomenclatural standpoint, Halobacteria Grant et al. 2002 is a junior homotypic synonym of Halomebacteria Cavalier-Smith 2002, as both have the type order Halobacteriales. However, Cavalier-Smith includes the Methanosarcinales in the class Halomebacteria. In contrast, Grant et al. do not include the Methanosarcinales in the class Halobacteria. The nomenclatural form that is most consistent with the taxonomic outline used in the GenBank Taxonomy Database is here given priority.
