The oral cavities of venomous and non-venomous snakes are colonized by various kinds of anaerobic and aerobic bacteria. Although, some of these bacterial species are responsible for secondary bacterial infection associated with snakebite, there are a few studies on the characterization and distribution of these microorganisms in the oral cavity of snake. Therefore, we for the first time determined complete oral bacterial community of Indian Cobra, King Cobra and Indian Python using next generation sequencing of hypervariable regions from 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene.
