Senescence gene signature of radiation fibrosis

(Submitter supplied) Radiation lung injury is characterized by early inflammation and late fibrosis. The causes underlying the chronic, progressive nature of radiation injury are poorly understood. Here, we report that the gene expression of irradiated lung tissue correlates with that observed in the lungs in aged animals. We demonstrate that NOX4 expression and superoxide elaboration is increased in irradiated lungs and pneumocytes in a dose dependent fashion. more...

Lung response to thoracic irradiation: dose response and time course

Analysis of total lung from C57Bl/Ncr females exposed to 0, 5, or 17.5 Gy at 2, 4, 8, 16, and 30 weeks after thoracic irradiation. The lungs show extensive fibrosis at 30 weeks after 17.5 Gy. Results provide insight into molecular mechanisms underlying radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis (RIPF).
