Aspergillus flavus is a filamentous fungus which is famous for production of aflatoxin. TERIBR1 isolate of A. Flavus was isolated from a tannery sludge [at 25000 mg/l of Cr(III) in PDB media] and showed detoxification of Cr(VI) and accumulation of Cr(III) in its biomass while growing in Cr containing media and in spent chrome effluent. It showed no toxic effect of Cr(VI) upto 500 mg/l and showed 100% detoxification of 500 mg/l within 120 -136 hrs of incubation. The study aims to decipher the putative genetic factors of the fungus responsible for chromium tolerance.
