The impact of endurance exercise on human skeletal muscle transcriptome

(Submitter supplied) The aim of this study was to elucidate the transcriptional signatures that distinguish the endurance-trained and the untrained muscle in healthy adult young males, both at baseline as well as in response to an acute bout of exercise.

Inter-patient heterogeneity in the hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury transcriptome: implications for research and diagnostics [MUG data]

(Submitter supplied) Background & Aims: Cellular responses induced by surgical procedure or ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) may severely alter transcriptome profiles. We have investigated this effect to obtain insight into molecular ischemia responses during surgical procedures and characterize pre-analytical effects impacting on molecular analyses. Methods: 143 non-malignant liver samples were obtained from 30 patients at different time points of ischemia during surgery from two individual cohorts, treated either with the Pringle maneuver or total vascular exclusion. more...

Quantification of totalRNA expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC)

(Submitter supplied) Microarrays were used to compare the expression of oral squamous cell carcinoma in the high and low serum IL-6 groups. The results of the analysis may also be used to understand the disease, such as whether patients with high serum IL-6 levels have a poor prognosis or nutritional and metabolic activity status.

Stanniocalcin-1 mediates aortic valve calcification via promoting osteochondrogenic differentiation from valve interstitial cells

(Submitter supplied) Although calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAVS) is the most prevalent valvular heart disease, the molecular mechanisms underlying aortic valve calcification remain unknown. Here, we found a significant elevation in stanniocalcin-1 (STC1) expression in the valve interstitial cells (VICs) of calcific aortic valves by combined analysis of our comprehensive gene expression data and microarray datasets reported previously. more...

Gene expression data from diabetic human adipose-derived stem cells (d-hASC) treated with 1uM oleacein

(Submitter supplied) Gene expression profiling reveals multiple biological functions of oleacein in diabetic model. We evaluated the effects of oleacein on diabetic human adipose-derived stem cells. We performed an untargeted whole-genome transcriptome analysis to explore functionality of oleacein in a diabetic adipose stem cell-based tool.

Gene expression data from human neural stem cells (hNSCs) treated with 10 uM TCQA for 24 hours

(Submitter supplied) TCQA promoted differentiation of hNSCs at least toward the neuronal lineage and suggests the possibility of using TCQA to promote neurogenesis. When differentiation is induced by growth factor withdrawal, decreased expression of stemness gene and increased expression of NSC fate-promoting genes can be observed. Therefore, we evaluated the effect of TCQA on global gene expression in hNSCs during differentiation at 24h to elucidate the neurogenesis-promoting effects of TCQA.

MicroRNA-1289 functions as a novel tumor suppressor in oral squamous cell carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) Recently, a number of tumor suppressive microRNAs (TS-miRs) have been found in human ma-lignancies. In this study, we have attempted to identify a novel TS-miR in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) using function-based screening. First, we transfected human OSCC cells with 968 synthetic mimicking human mature miRs individually, and then the growth of these cells was evaluated. Five miRs significantly reduced the cell growth rate by less than 30%, and miR-1289 had the most potent growth inhibitory effect among these miRs. more...

Gene Expression Profile (GEP) of Cytokine-Induced Killer (CIK) cells

(Submitter supplied) Cytokine Induced Killer (CIK) cells are heterogeneous ex vivo expanded T lymphocytes with mixed T-NK phenotype and endowed with a wide MHC-unrestricted antitumor activity against both solid and hematologic malignancies. CIK cells can be easily ex vivo expanded up to clinical relevant rates from circulating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), according to a standard protocol involving timed stimulation with IFN- γ (day 0), Ab-antiCD3 OKT3 (day 1) and IL-2 (from day 1 to the end). more...

Expression data from SQ, TRI-SQ and Tetra-SQ-treated HFDPCs

(Submitter supplied) Gene expression profiling reveals a potential role of SQ, Tri-SQ, and Tetra-SQ in stimulating hair growth in dermal papilla cells. Squalene (SQ) was found to exhibit a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity; however, its biological effects is underestimated because of its insolubility. To overcome this problem, new amphiphilic SQ derivatives were synthesized and were used in this study to check their potential effect in vitro and in vivo on inducing hair growth while exhibiting an anti-aging property.

Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, prognosis and trastuzumab benefit in early-stage breast cancer patients from the FinHER trial

(Submitter supplied) The clinical relevance of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in breast cancer (BC) is not firmly established. We aimed to validate previous prognostic findings in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) and investigate predictive associations with trastuzumab benefit in HER2 overexpressing disease (HER2+).

Cabozantinib enhances anti-PD1 efficacy and elicits a neutrophil-based immune response in murine models: implications for human HCC

(Submitter supplied) Background & Aims: Immune checkpoint inhibitors combined with anti-angiogenic agents produces benefits in the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We investigated the efficacy and immunomodulatory activity of cabozantinib alone and combined with anti-PD1 in experimental models of HCC, and explored the potential target population that might benefit from this combination. Approach & Results: C57BL/6J mice bearing subcutaneous Hepa1-6 or Hep53.4 tumours received cabozantinib, anti-PD1, their combination or placebo. more...
