p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Signals the Immunoresolving Actions of Resolvin D1 in Inflamed Human Visceral Adipose Tissue

(Submitter supplied) Activation of the innate immune system leading to a persistent state of low-grade of tissue inflammation greatly influences the risk of developing metabolic complications associated with obesity. In this study, we characterized the inflammatory state in adipose tissue from obese patients and explored the potential of the specialized pro-resolving mediator (SPM) resolvin D1 (RvD1) to actively terminate inflammation and promote its resolution. more...

Integrative gene expression profiling analysis of human quiescent hepatic stellate cells

(Submitter supplied) Unveiling the regulatory pathways maintaining hepatic stellate cells (HSC) in a quiescent (q) phenotype is essential to develop new therapeutic strategies to treat fibrogenic diseases. To uncover the miRNA-mRNAs regulatory interactions in qHSCs, HSCs were FACS-sorted from healthy livers and activated HSCs were generated in vitro. MiRNA Taqman array analysis showed HSCs expressed a low number of miRNA, from which 46 were down-regulated and 212 up-regulated upon activation. more...
