Expression Proflies of Human Normal tissues

(Submitter supplied) We performed expression profiling of 36 types of normal human tissues and identified 2,503 tissue-specific genes. We then systematically studied the expression of these genes in cancers by re-analyzing a large collection of published DNA microarray datasets. Our study shows that integration of each gene's breadth of expression (BOE) in normal tissues is important for biological interpretation of the expression profiles of cancers in terms of tumor differentiation, cell lineage and metastasis. more...

Effect of the silencing of WT1 expression on HCC transcriptome

(Submitter supplied) The Wilms´ tumor 1 gene (WT1) encodes a transcription factor involved in cell growth and development. As we previously reported WT1 expression is hardly detectable in normal hepatic tissue but is induced in liver cirrhosis. Although WT1 has been found to be overexpressed in a number of malignancies, the role of WT1 in hepatocarcinogenesis has not been clarified. We found that WT1 is expressed in several human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines including PLC/PRF/5 and HepG2, and in HCC tumor tissue in 42% of patients. more...

Gene signatures of progression and metastasis in renal cell cancer

(Submitter supplied) In order to address the progression, metastasis, and clinical heterogeneity of renal cell cancer (RCC), transcriptional profiling with oligonucleotide microarrays (22,283 genes) was done on 49 RCC tumors, 20 non-RCC renal tumors, and 23 normal kidney samples. Samples were clustered based on gene expression profiles and specific gene sets for each renal tumor type were identified. Gene expression was correlated to disease progression and a metastasis gene signature was derived. more...

Two distinct gene signatures identify malignant Neuroblast and Schwannian stromal cells of Neuroblastic Tumors

(Submitter supplied) Tumor tissue heterogeneity is a well known feature of several solid tumors. Neuroblastic Tumors (NTs) is a group of paediatric cancers with a great tissue heterogeneity. Most of NTs are composed of undifferentiated, poorly differentiated or differentiating neuroblastic (Nb) cells with very few or absent Schwannian stromal (SS) cells: these tumors are grouped as Neuroblastoma (Schwannian stroma-poor). more...

(Submitter supplied) Data set to accompany : Anatomic demarcation by positional variation in fibroblast gene expression programs. PLoS Genet. 2006 Jul;2(7):e119. PMID: 16895450 Fibroblasts are ubiquitous mesenchymal cells with many vital functions during development, tissue repair, and disease. Fibroblasts from different anatomic sites have distinct and characteristic gene expression patterns, but the principles that govern their molecular specialization are poorly understood. more...
