AMP-activated protein kinase gamma-3 knockout effect on skeletal muscle

Analysis of white portions of gastrocnemius muscles from AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) gamma-3 knockout mutants. AMPK gamma-3 is important in glucose uptake, glycogen synthesis, and fat oxidation. Results compared to those from AMPK gamma-3 R225Q transgenic mutant (GDS1939).

VSartorelli SMC Calorie Restriction

(Submitter supplied) The integration of positive and negative intra- and extra-cellular signals dictates whether a cell will proliferate or differentiate. While it is intuitive to speculate that nutrients availability may influence this alternative, a comprehensive complement of the molecular determinants involved in this process has not been elucidated yet. In this study, we will investigate how nutrients (glucose) affect skeletal myogenesis. more...

Skeletal muscle and insulin regulated genes

(Submitter supplied) Insulin action in target tissues involved precise regulation of gene expression. To define the set of insulin-regulated genes in human skeletal muscle, we analyzed the global changes in mRNA levels during a 3-h hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp in vastus lateralis muscle of six healthy subjects. Using 29,308 cDNA element microarrays, we found that the mRNA expression of 762 genes, including 353 expressed sequence tags, was significantly modified during insulin infusion. more...

Effects of acute maximal exercise and high-fat feeding on the mouse skeletal muscle transcriptome

(Submitter supplied) Physical inactivity and over-nutrition are key risk factors for metabolic diseases, with impaired skeletal muscle gene transcription and metabolic function proposed as key etiological factors. Here, we have used RNA-seq to assessed the skeletal muscle transcriptome from mice fed a control or high fat diet (HFD), both pre- and 3h post-exercise. HFD up-regulated genes involved in lipid catabolism in skeletal muscle (quadriceps), while decreasing 241 exercise-responsive genes related to skeletal muscle plasticity. more...
