DNA methyltransferase inhibitor 5-aza-dC-treated prostate cancer cell lines

(Submitter supplied) This microarray dataset accompanies the publication by Kim et al, "The retinoic acid synthesis gene ALDH1a2 is a candidate tumor suppressor in prostate cancer". The dataset comprises four prostate cancer cell lines treated with the DNA methyltransferase inhibitor 5-aza-dC. For each cell line, gene expression in treated (channel 2; Cy5) and untreated (channel 1; Cy3) cells is directly compared by hybridization to the same DNA microarray. more...

DNA methyltransferase inhibitor 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine effect on prostate cancer cell lines

Analysis of prostate cancer cell lines after treatment with the DNA methyltransferase inhibitor 5-Aza-2'-deoxycytidine (5-aza-dC). Aberrant DNA methylation is an early event in the development of prostate cancer. Results identify hypermethylated genes whose expression is induced by 5-aza-dC.

DNA methylation and expression profiling study for prostate cancer

(Submitter supplied) Microarray-based DNA methylation and gene expression profiling was carried out using a panel of prostate cancer cell lines (LNCaP-FGC, DU-145, and PC-3) and the control normal prostate RWPE1 cell line. The identification of prostate cancer-specific methylation markers was based on the following criteria: a difference in DNA methylation level (β) of at least 0.5, and at least a 2-fold difference in expression level between cancer and control cells. more...

Expression profiling of HCC

(Submitter supplied) 61 human HCCs were analyzed for genome-wide gene expression. Samples were collected at two sites in Germany, Heidelberg (HD) and Hannover (N). The Heidelberg Collection include 40 independent HCC: 19 liver resections and 17 explant liver specimen (4 not determined); median age at surgery was 57 years (range, 16-78), and the male/female ratio was 3:1. All diagnoses were confirmed by histological reevaluation, and use of the samples was approved by the local ethics committee. more...

Identification of oral carcinoma miRNA involved in Wnt/b-catenin signaling

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs (miRNAs) participate in many biological processes and have emerged as key players in carcinogenesis. In order to identify changes in miRNAs specific for betelquid-associated oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), we investigated the expression profiles of 858 miRNAs in a panel of 40 pairs of OSCC specimens and their matched non-tumorous epithelial counterparts. Eighty-four miRNAs were differentially expressed in the OSCC specimens compared to the matched tissue. more...

ALDH1A2 Is a Candidate Tumor Suppressor Gene in Ovarian Cancer”

(Submitter supplied) nalysis of mechano-regulation of tenocyte metabolism at gene expression level. The hypothesis tested in the present study was that cyclic tensile strain influence the balance of anabolism/catabolism of tenocytes. Results provide important information of the response of tenocyte to cyclic tensile strain, such as specific mechano-responsive genes, up- or down-regulated specific anabolic/catabolic cellular functions.

Gene expression analysis of in vivo-grown tumors treated with compounds that either de-bulk the tumor or target cancer stem cells

(Submitter supplied) A large body of evidence has demonstrated that many human tumors are maintained by a small cell population called cancer stem cells (CSCs) or tumor progenitors, which are responsible for tumor formation, therapy resistance and metastasis. We found that ionizing radiation treatment enriches for the CSC phenotype and properties by preferential survival and expansion of tumor progenitor cells. Our studies revealed that aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) activity is indicative of prostate tumor progenitor cells with increased chemo- and radioresistance, enhanced migratory potential, improved DNA- double strand break repair and activation of the signaling pathways, which promote self-renewal and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. more...

PI3K/mTOR Inhibitor NVP-BEZ235 and taxotere effects on prostate cancer xenograft tumors

Analysis of DU145 xenograft tumors in NOD/SCID mice treated with NVP-BEZ235, taxotere, or both. NVP-BEZ235 targets prostate cancer progenitor cells. Taxotere targets the bulk tumor. Results provide insight into potential biomarkers associated with cancer stem cells in these xenograft tumors.

Candidate prostate cancer genes through comparative expression-profiling of seminal vesicle

(Submitter supplied) BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among men in the United States. In contrast, cancer of the seminal vesicle is exceedingly rare, despite that the prostate and seminal vesicle share similar histology, secretory function, androgen dependency, blood supply, and (in part) embryonic origin. We hypothesized that gene-expression differences between prostate and seminal vesicle might inform mechanisms underlying the higher incidence of prostate cancer. more...
