Gene expression profile in human orthotopic liver transplantation

(Submitter supplied) We have studied the genes activated in human liver transplantation to identify potential target genes for the prevention or treatment of related injuries. In a first protocol, in order to evaluate the effect of Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury (IRI) on gene expression profile, we compared gene expression levels in transplanted-reperfused livers versus basal values in donor livers, identifying 795 genes significantly modified in human liver after transplantation. more...

Ischemic Pre- and Post Conditioning has pronounced effects on Gene Expression Profiles in the Rat Liver after Ischemia/Reperfusion

(Submitter supplied) Ischemia/reperfusion injuries is a known complication to hepatic surgery. Ischemic pre- (IPC) and postconditioning (IPO) protects the liver against ischemia/reperfusion-injuries. Expression profiling were performed on liver biopsies seeking to identify molecular mediators of the protective properties.

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...

D-serine effect on the brain: dose response

Analysis of forebrains of animals treated with up to 500 mg/kg D-serine for 96 hours. D-serine is involved in many physiological processes through its interaction with the glycine binding site of the NMDA receptor. Results provide insight into the impact of D-serine exposure on neuronal functions.

Effects of ischemia reperfusion injury or nephrectomy on mouse lung

(Submitter supplied) Experiments in rodents have shown that kidney ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) facilitates lung injury and inflammation. To identify potential ischemia-specific lung molecular pathways involved, we conducted global gene expression profiling of lung 6 or 36 hours following 1) bilateral kidney IRI, 2) bilateral nephrectomy (BNx), and 3) sham laparotomy in C57BL/6J mice. Total RNA from whole lung was isolated and hybridized to 430MOEA (22,626 genes) GeneChips (n=3/group). more...

Transcriptome patterns for Acute Cellular Rejection in Recipients with Recurrent Hepatitis C after Liver Transplantation

(Submitter supplied) The histological evaluation of liver via biopsy remains as the standard for the diagnosis of both acute cellular rejection (ACR) and recurrent hepatitis C (RHC) after liver transplantation. Nevertheless, it is often difficult to diagnose ACR in HCV-positive recipients because of common co-existing and overlapping morphological changes with RHC. The aim of the study was to identify potential target genes for ACR in recipients with RHC. more...

Gene expression profiles in synovial biopsies from patients with arthritis

(Submitter supplied) Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory joint disorder that results in progressive joint damage when insufficiently treated. In order to prevent joint destruction and functional disability in RA, early diagnosis and initiation of appropriate treatment with Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (DMARDs) is needed. However, in daily clinical practice, patients may initially display symptoms of arthritis that do not fulfil the classification criteria for a definite diagnosis of RA, or any other joint disease, a situation called “Undifferentiated Arthritis” (UA). more...

Expression data from non-infected and Salmonella Choleraesuis infected mesenteric lymph nodes

(Submitter supplied) To understand the host transcriptional response to S. enterica serovar Choleraesuis (S. Choleraesuis), the first generation Affymetrix porcine GeneChip® was used to identify differentially expressed genes in the mesenteric lymph nodes responding to infection at acute (8 hours (h), 24h, 48h post-inoculation (pi)) and chronic stages (21 days (d) pi) The objectives of this study were to identify and examine the stereotypical gene expression response within the host mesenteric lymph nodes to S. more...

Arthritis_RA_OA_VNS

(Submitter supplied) Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) represents a rare group of lesions with morphological features suggesting an inflammatory as well as a neoplastic nature. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by a chronic inflammation of the synovial tissue and a tumor-like proliferation (TLP) of synovial stroma cells. Osteoarthritis (OA) shows modest inflammatory infiltrates and no TLP. All three diseases result in a progressive destruction of affected joints and remain a diagnostic difficulty because of nonspecific symptoms. more...

Novel Molecular Markers for non-melanoma skin cancer

(Submitter supplied) normal skin (no), actinic keratosis (ak), and squamous cell carcinoma (scc) of the skin were examined: Carcinogenesis is a multi-step process indicated by several genes up- or down-regulated during tumor progression. The type and number of genes involved in non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) are still unclear. This study examined and identified different expressed genes in NMSC. Fifteen snap-frozen biopsies of five immunosuppressed organ-transplanted recipients each normal skin, actinic keratosis (AK) and invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) were analysed. more...
