Gene expression networks in COPD: microRNA and mRNA regulation

(Submitter supplied) 70 miRNAs and 2667 mRNAs were differentially expressed between lung tissue from subjects with COPD and smokers without COPD. miRNA and mRNA expression profiles enriched for biological pathways that may be relevant to the pathogenesis of COPD including the transforming growth factor b, Wnt and focal adhesion pathways. miR-223 and miR-1274a were the most affected miRNAs in subjects with COPD compared with smokers without obstruction. more...

miRNA expression data in unstimulated and TGF-β1-stimulated lung fibroblasts

(Submitter supplied) Lung fibroblasts play an important role in extracellular matrix homeostasis and this process is mainly regulated by transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β). Hence, lung fibroblasts are postulated to play a crucial role in aberrant lung tissue repair and remodeling, which is a main factor in lung diseases like COPD. In this study, the effect of TGF-β1 on the miRNA expression in parenchymal lung fibroblasts is investigated.

Characterization of B- and T-lineage ALL by Integrated Analysis of microRNA and mRNA Expression Profiles

(Submitter supplied) Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is an heterogeneous disease comprising several subentities that differ for both immunophenotypic and molecular characteristics. Over the years, the biologic understanding of this neoplasm has largely increased. Gene expression profiling has recently allowed to identify specific signatures for the different ALL subsets and permitted identification of pathways deregulated by a given lesion. more...

Pulmonary gene and microRNA expression changes in mice exposed to benzo(a)pyrene by oral gavage

(Submitter supplied) Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widely distributed, carcinogenic environmental contaminants produced as a consequence of the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) is a very extensively studied prototypical PAH. We recently reported a complete lack of change in microRNA (miRNA) expression in adult mouse liver following oral gavage with BaP despite a robust transcriptome response. more...

(Submitter supplied) Examining the transcriptional change in whole mouse (VM) brain miRNA expression during prion (22A) induced neurodegeneration in order to identify miRNAs that are differentially expressed. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNA molecules which are emerging as key regulators of numerous cellular processes. Compelling evidence links miRNAs to the control of neuronal development and differentiation, however, little is known about their role in neurodegeneration. more...

miRNA prognostic profiles in lung cancer

(Submitter supplied) Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which is comprised mainly of adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), is the cause of 80% of all lung cancer deaths in the US. NSCLC is also associated with a high rate of relapse following clinical treatment and therefore requires robust prognostic markers to better manage therapy options. The aim of this study was to identify miRNA expression profiles in squamous cell carcinoma (SSC) of the lung that would better predict prognosis.

Expression data from human embryonic stem cell differentiation

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are noncoding RNAs of approximately 22 nucleotides in length that usually suppress the translation of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) through partial complementarity to the 3¡¦ untranslated region (3¡¦ UTR) of protein-coding mRNAs in animals. However, there is increasing evidence that miRNAs can also reduce the steady-state levels of their target mRNAs in animals. In this investigation, both miRNA and mRNA profiles from the undifferentiated human embryonic stem cell line hES-T3 (T3ES), hES-T3 derived embryoid bodies (T3EB) and hES-T3 differentiated fibroblast-like cells (T3DF) were quantitatively determined. more...

Gene Expression Profiling in the Lungs of Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Lung Cancer

(Submitter supplied) COPD is a common and disabling lung disease for which very few therapeutic options are currently available. We reasoned that global gene expression profiling of COPD lungs could reveal previously unidentified disease pathways for potential therapeutic interventions. Forty-eight human lung samples were obtained from lungs or lobes resected for small peripheral lung lesions (5 non-smokers, 21 GOLD 0, 9 GOLD 1, 10 GOLD 2 and 3 GOLD 3 patients). more...

Integration of BRCA1-mediated miRNA and mRNA signatures reveal miR-146a, miR-99b and miR-205 regulation of the TRAF2 and NFkB pathways (mRNA dataset)

(Submitter supplied) BRCA1 deregulation is a frequent event in the pathogenesis of breast as well as other cancers. In addition to the DNA repair functions of BRCA1, it is involved in a wide range of cellular processes such as cell cycle, chromatin remodeling or transcription. However, the molecular events underlying BRCA1-associated tumorigenesis are still largely unknown. In order to deepen our understanding of BRCA1-associated tumorigenesis, we integrated data from mRNA and miRNA microarray experiments on the HCC1937 breast cancer cell line, and the isogenic HCC1937 stably expressing BRCA1, to obtain significant miRNA-mRNA relationships associated to the presence of the BRCA1 gene. more...

Integration of BRCA1-mediated miRNA and mRNA signatures reveal miR-146a, miR-99b and miR-205 regulation of the TRAF2 and NFkB pathways (miRNA dataset)

(Submitter supplied) Microarray‐based techniques are being used to obtain miRNA and gene expression signatures associated with different samples. In order to deepen our understanding of BRCA1-associated tumorigenesis, we integrated data from microarray experiments to obtain significant miRNA-mRNA relationships associated with the presence of the BRCA1 gene. We obtained significant miRNA-gene-pathway relationships underlying the array signatures. more...
