Genome-wide gene expression profiling of three Ethiopian insecticide resistant Anopheles arabiensis populations and two insecticide susceptible Anopheles arabiensis strains

(Submitter supplied) Illumina HiSeq 2500 technology was used to sequence the transcriptome of three Ethiopian field populations of An. arabiensis (Asendabo (ASN), Chewaka (CHW) and Tolay (TOL)) and two An. arabiensis strains (Sekoru (SEK, from Ethiopia) and Moz (MOZ, from Mozambique)). Both ASN, CHW and TOL were previously shown to be resistant against delamethrin and DDT, while the two An. arabiensis strains (SEK and MOZ) were both susceptible to deltamethrin and DDT (Alemayehu et al. more...

Transcriptional analyses of different Chrysodeixis includens larvae (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) unveil molecular resistance mechanism for pyrethroid resistance in Brazil

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: To investigate resistance mechanisms among individuals that tolerate high doses of insecticides, we performed high-throughput RNA sequencing on two Brazilian populations of C. includens, that differ in susceptibility to pyrethroid λ-cyhalothrin. Methods: Two replicates of pool 4 larvae (third instar) of each population, susceptible (LAB) and resistant (MS), were dissected into two parts: head (enriched with neural tissue) and body (enriched with adipose and gut tissues). more...

Deep sequencing of pyrethroid-resistant bed bugs reveals multiple mechanisms of resistance within a single population

(Submitter supplied) A frightening resurgence of bed bug infestations has occurred over the last 10 years in the US. Current chemical methods have been inadequate for controlling bed bugs due to widespread insecticide resistance. Little is known about the mechanisms of resistance present in US bed bug populations, making it extremely difficult to develop intelligent strategies to control this pest. We have identified bed bugs collected in Richmond, VA which exhibit both kdr-type (L925I) and metabolic resistance to pyrethroid insecticides. more...

Transcriptional profiling of a novel mutant resistant to imidacloprid and DDT

(Submitter supplied) Deep-sequencing analysis of mRNA expression differences between imidacloprid and DDT resistant mutant line and iso31 (w1118) susceptible line have been obtained. A total of 357 transcripts were found to be differently expressed, with 150 upregulated and 207 downregulated genes in the resistant line.

Geographical distribution and molecular insights into abamectin and milbemectin cross-resistance in European field populations of Tetranychus urticae

(Submitter supplied) Macrocylic lactones, milbemectin and abamectin, are compounds that are frequently used for the control of the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae. The development of abamectin resistance in this major pest has become an increasing problem worldwide, potentially compromising the use of milbemectin. In this study, gene expression profile differences between abamectin/milbemectin resistant T. urticae populations (ES1, IT2 and UK6) and a susceptible T. more...
