Inherited cryptorchidism model: fetal gubernaculum

Analysis of gubernaculum of cryptorchid (orl) fetuses at various gestational days up to GD20. The orl strain is at high risk for cryptorchidism, or undescended testis, one of the most common congenital anomalies in humans. Results provide insight into molecular mechanisms underlying cryptorchidism.

Gene expression in fetal gubernaculum and testis of wildtype (LE/wt) and cryptorchid (LE/orl) rats

(Submitter supplied) The Long Evans/orl (LE/orl) rat is an animal model of inherited undescended testis (UDT). To explore genetic mechanisms of UDT, we studied differential gene expression in LE/orl and LE wild type (LE/wt) fetal gubernaculum and testis. Analyses of differentially expressed probe sets linked below as supplementary files: Analysis_methods.txt [A description of the analysis] gub.txt [Genes differentially expressed in between wt and orl gubernacula] testes.txt [Genes differentially expressed between wt and orl testes] wt.txt [Genes differentially expressed in wt gubernacular development] Keywords: strain/condition predisposition, disease state analysis, developmental

Cryptorchidism in the orl rat is associated with muscle patterning defects in the fetal gubernaculum and altered hormonal signaling

(Submitter supplied) This study was designed to provide additional insight into testicular hormone production and responsiveness in the orl strain and complement ongoing efforts to characterize the genetic basis of cryptorchidism in this isolated rat colony.

Gene Profiling Male Fetal Rat Gubernaculum After Insulin-like 3 (Insl3) Exposure

(Submitter supplied) Insl3 is a testis-derived hormone that induces growth and differentiation of the fetal gubernaculum. The goal of this study was to identify genes showing altered expression in fetal gubernaculum following Insl3 exposure.

Suppression of insulin like3 receptor reveals the role of β-catenin and Notch signaling in gubernaculum development

(Submitter supplied) During male development, the testes move from a high intraabdominal position and descend into the scrotum. The gubernaculum, an inguinoscrotal ligament connecting the testis to the lower abdomen, is believed to play a critical role in this process. The first stage of testicular descent is controlled by INSL3, insulin like3 hormone, produced in testicular Leydig cells. Deletion of Insl3 or its receptor, Rxfp2, in mice causes cryptorchidism. more...

Bovine skeletal muscle gene network

(Submitter supplied) We present the application of large-scale multivariate mixed-model equations to the joint analysis of nine gene expression experiments in beef cattle muscle and fat tissues with a total of 147 hybridizations, and exploring 47 experimental conditions or treatments. Using a correlation-based method, we constructed a gene network for 822 genes. Modules of muscle structural proteins and enzymes, extracellular matrix, fat metabolism and protein synthesis were clearly evident. more...

Differential transcrpitome analysis of Sertoli cells during their phases of postnatal maturation in rat testes

(Submitter supplied) Spermatogenesis is a complex process involving multiple cells and cellular signals. Among all other cells, Sertoli cells (Sc) are absolutely indispensable for sperm production because they provide biochemical signal and physical support to developing germ cells in the testis. Sc drastically transform during the process of attainment of reproductive maturity. Stage specific gene expression by Sc, supplement for the changing need of developing germ cells. more...

Gene Expression Profile of Androgen Modulated Genes in the Murine Fetal Developing Lung

(Submitter supplied) Accumulating evidences suggest that sex affects lung development. During the fetal period, male lung maturation is delayed compared with female and surfactant production appears earlier in female than in male fetal lungs. We analyzed by microarrays the expression of genes showing a sexual difference and those modulated by endogenous androgens (flutamide).
