Aquaporin-11 deficiency effect on the kidney

Analysis of kidneys of 1 week old animals lacking aquaporin-11 (AQP11). AQP11 null mutants develop polycystic kidneys. Results provide insight into the molecular basis of cyst formation in kidneys of AQP11 mutants.

Aquaporin-11 knockout effect on kidney

(Submitter supplied) Aquaporin-11 (AQP11), a new member of the aquaporin family, is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Aqp11–/– mice neonatally suffer from polycystic kidneys derived from the proximal tubule. Its onset is proceeded by the vacuolization of ER. However, the mechanism for the formation of vacuoles and the development of cysts remain to be clarified. Here, we show that Aqp11–/– mice and polycystic kidney disease animals share a common pathogenic mechanism of cyst formation. more...

Changed gene profile in inv cystic kidney

(Submitter supplied) Nephronophthisis (NPHP) is a group of progressive renal disorders characterized by a variable number of cysts associated with cortical tubular atrophy. Recently, mutations in INV have been identified to be responsible for NPHP2. The inv/inv,inv-deltaC::GFP mouse that was created by introduction of inv gene lacking the C-terminus (inv-deltaC) into inv/inv mice develops multiple renal cysts without situs abnormality. more...
