Summary
This region is located upstream of the Cd8a (CD8a molecule) coding sequence and contains multiple DNase I hypersensitive sites overlapping with positive and negative gene regulatory elements. This sequence is important for directing expression of Cd8 antigen in thermocytes and peripheral T cells. It contains an element that binds SATB homeobox 1 and associates with matrix proteins, and may therefore function as a scaffold/matrix attachment region (S/MAR). Association of Ikaros zinc finger protein with this region can suppress position effect variegation of a transgene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016]

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.
