npas4l - neuronal PAS domain protein 4 like
This gene encodes a PAS-domain-containing basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor. This gene is expressed during late gastrulation and functions as an essential transcriptional regulator of mesoderm diversification and differentiation. The encoded protein is involved in directing the specification of endothelial and haematopoietic cell lineages. Mutations in this genes result in a loss of endothelial and haematopoietic cells and an increase in cardiomyocyte numbers. This gene is located in the telomeric region of chromosome 13.
