Summary
Enables DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity; and chromatin DNA binding activity. Involved in regulation of transcription, DNA-templated; retinal ganglion cell axon guidance; and visual perception. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cilium organization; nervous system development; and positive regulation of nodal signaling pathway involved in determination of lateral mesoderm left/right asymmetry. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; embryo mesenchyme; eye; and neural ectoderm. Used to study holoprosencephaly 5 and schizophrenia. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in holoprosencephaly and holoprosencephaly 5. Orthologous to human ZIC2 (Zic family member 2). RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.
