PATE4 is a novel factor in forming the copulatory plug that inhibits sequential matings and maintains spermatozoa in the uterus to ensure male fecundity.

Taken together, our study was the first to generate and analyze a mouse model lacking Pate4, a gene with strong expression in prostate and seminal vesicles, yet without major function for fertility.
