Organism
Escherichia coli str. K-12 substr. MG1655 (strain: K-12, substrain: MG1655)
Lineage
Bacteria; Pseudomonadota; Gammaproteobacteria; Enterobacterales; Enterobacteriaceae; Escherichia
Also known as
ECK3219
Summary
rpsI can be deleted, but null mutants grow slowly and express kanamycin resistance weakly (Bubunenko, 2007), which may explain why a deletion was not isolated by Baba (2006), leading to its misclassification as an essential gene. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10908]. The S9 protein is a component of the 30S subunit of the ribosome. [More information is available at EcoCyc: EG10908].
