Summary: This gene encodes a small peptide that shares structural similarity to the small peptides sarcolipin and phospholamban, which are key regulators of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca(2+)-ATPases (SERCAs). This protein is thought to have a similar function to these peptides, regulating Ca(2+) reuptake in the sarcoplasmic reticulum by inhibiting the Ca(2+) pump activity of SERCAs. Linc-RAM regulates expression of myogenic genes by directly binding MyoD, which in turn promotes the assembly of the MyoD-Baf60c-Brg1 complex on the regulatory elements of target genes.
Title: Long non-coding RNA Linc-RAM enhances myogenic differentiation by interacting with MyoD.
Results demonstrate that the FGF2-mediated repression of Linc-RAM expression occurs through MyoD via the Ras/Raf/Mek/Erk signaling pathway during myogenic differentiation. Present data provide convincing evidence that Linc-RAM is a lineage-specific lncRNA that plays regulatory roles in modulating muscle cell differentiation via FGF2-mediated signaling.
