    Summary
This gene encodes a member of the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)/calcitonin family of hormones that play a role in the regulation of cardiovascular homeostasis, prolactin release, anti-diuresis, anti-natriuresis, and regulation of food and water intake. The encoded protein is proteolytically processed to generate one or more biologically active peptides. Intravenous injection of the active peptide was found to protect mouse lungs from ischemia/reperfusion injury. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2015]

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.
