Methanoculleus marisnigri

Methanogen present in marine and freshwater sediments

Lineage: Archaea[2268]; Euryarchaeota[1039]; Stenosarchaea group[766]; Methanomicrobia[224]; Methanomicrobiales[95]; Methanomicrobiaceae[33]; Methanoculleus[10]; Methanoculleus marisnigri[1]
Methanoculleus marisnigri. Methanoculleus marisnigri was first isolated from sediment from the Black Sea, but has also been identified in freshwater sediments. This organism can use hydrogen, formate, and secondary alcohols, such as propanol and butanol, for methanogenesis.
