Title Effect of Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) on gene expression of MCF7 cells
Organism Homo sapiens
Experiment type Expression profiling by high throughput sequencing
Summary RNA sequence analysis showed that PBDE47 had estrogenic activity through cell cycle regulation, and PBDE100 and PBDE153 had anti-estrogenic activity throguth ER and AhR cross talk.

Overall design MCF7 expression was compared with control (DMSO, dimethyl sulfoxide), a known estrogen agonist (PPT, propyl pyrazole), a combination of PPT and MPP (methyl piperidino pyrazole, a known estrogen antagonist to counteract the effect of PPT treatment), and 3 types of PBDEs. PBDE47 was treated without any other compounds (with the expectation that it is an estrogen agonist), while PBDE100 and PBDE153 were treated along with PPT (so that expected estrogen antagonists could counteract the PPT treatment).
