Biotinylated cRNA were prepared from 0.55 ug total RNA using the Illumina TotalPrep RNA Amplification Kit (Ambion, Austin,TX).

Following fragmentation, 0.75 ug of cRNA were hybridized to the Illumina MouseRef-8 Expression BeadChip according to the protocols provided by the manufacturer.

Arrays were scanned using the Illumina Bead Array Reader Confocal Scanner.

Data processing |
Array data export processing and analysis was performed using Illumina BeadStudio v3.1.3 (Gene Expression Module v3.3.8). Array data were filtered by detection p-value < 0.05 (similar to signal to noise) in at least 50% samples (we applied a filtering criterion for data analysis; higher signal value was required to obtain a detection p-value < 0.05). Selected gene signal values were transformed by logarithm and normalized by the quantile method.
