| Treatment protocol |
Four-week-old WT (C57BL/6J) and KO (Interleukin-10 knockout) mice were fed an AIN-93-based diet or an 8% pESM-supplemented diet for 28 weeks. After the experimental period, the back skin was collected under deep anesthesia with isoflurane, removed the dermal white adipose tissue from collected skin sample.

The mice were individually housed in cages in a temperature-controlled (23 ± 2 °C), 12 h light-dark cycle environment.

| Extraction protocol |
Crushed skin samples were homogenized with 1 mL of TRIzol reagent, and then 200 µL of chloroform was added. The mixture was centrifuged at 12,000× g, 4 °C for 15 min, and the supernatant was mixed with Nucleospin® RNA RA1 buffer and ethanol. Further experi-mental procedures were per the manufacturer’s instructions.

| Data processing |
The data were converted to CEL file format using Affymetrix GeneChip® Command Console. The numerical conversion and the normalization were performed using R ver. 3.5.1 and Affymetrix Microarray Analysis Suite 5 (Affymetrix), respectively.
