Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol Total RNA was isolated from frozen brains using a Biopulverizer (Biospec). Pulverized samples were placed in tubes containing 1ml Trizol reagent (Invitrogen) and a stainless steel bead. Samples were shaken for 5 minutes on a Tissuelyzer apparatus (Mixer Mill 300, Qiagen) and incubated at room temperature for 5 minutes. We added 200 µl chloroform (Fisher) and then samples were sequentially shaken for 15 seconds on a Tissuelyzer, incubated at room temperature for 3 minutes, and centrifuged at 10,000 rpm for 15 min at 4°C. The supernatant was transferred to a gDNA Eliminator spin column (RNeasy plus mini kit, Qiagen) and processed according to the manufacturer instructions.
