This study was conducted to obtain a phylogenomic dataset for understanding the evolution of Tibouchina (Melastomataceae). We targeted 384 single-copy nuclear loci identified using a novel two-tiered bioinformatic pipeline. These loci were sequenced on an Illumina HiSeq 3000 platform for 144 samples of Tibouchina. We obtained sequences for an average of 227 loci per species and demonstrated that probes designed from taxa within the clade of interest are more successful in capturing these loci. We also identified 193 loci that are conserved across melastomes. This dataset was also used to reconstruct the phylogeny for Tibouchina s.s.
