Submitting Sequence Data for a GEO project
Introduction
Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) archives various categories of functional genomic sequence data generated by next-generation sequencing methodologies. GEO accepts data for studies that examine gene expression profiling, gene regulation and epigenetics.
Please refer to Introduction to GEO submissions.
Submitting SRA data via GEO
Submitters would deposit their sequence data via GEO instead of via SRA if:
- They have a processed (or summary) data from which the conclusions in associated manuscripts are based.
- Their study is a type accepted by GEO. Refer to Categories of sequence submissions processed by GEO.
A complete GEO submission includes:
- metadata (metadata spreadsheet)
- processed data (processed data files)
- raw data (raw data files)
GEO brokers the raw data files to SRA, so there is no need for the submitter to deposit them to SRA first. GEO also automatically creates a BioProject and BioSamples.
