Mature and aged Male and female rabbit heart gene expression in global ischemia and cardioplegia

(Submitter supplied) Background: Demographic studies have shown that the mean age of patients requiring coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) is 68 years with approximately 44% of these patients being female . In recent studies, women have been shown to have a significantly greater operative risk as compared to men and that women have worse outcomes after cardiac surgery. Recently we have shown that cardioprotection afforded by cardioplegia is modulated by RNA and protein dependent mechanisms and is significantly decreased with age and in particular is significantly decreased in the aged female. more...

New Zealand White Rabbit Heart 15K cDNA array

(Submitter supplied) New Zealand White Rabbit Heart; male, new born- 3 week recovery Protocol: cDNA Library : Isolation of total heart (atria and ventricles)RNA: RNA was isolated from New Zealand rabbit (15-20 weeks; 3 to 4 kg) heart in an RNase-free environment using RNase-free lab-wear, materials and equipment according to the procedure as described by Chomczynski and Sacchi (Anal Biochem 162:156-15). In brief tissue was pulverized under liquid nitrogen using mortar and pestle and extracted two times in acidic guanidinium isothiocyanate-phenol-chloroform and incubated for 5 min. more...
