Interstitial cystitis and antiproliferative factor treatment

(Submitter supplied) Changes in human bladder epithelial cell gene expression associated with interstitial cystitis or antiproliferative factor treatment. Explanted bladder epithelial cells from patients with interstitial cystitis (IC) have been shown to differ from explanted control cells in several ways, including production of an antiproliferative factor (APF), altered production of certain epithelial growth factors, and rate of proliferation. more...

Differentiation associated changes in gene expression profiles for interstitial cystitis and control urothelial cells

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: Evaluate gene expression profiles after inducing differentiation in cultured interstitial cystitis (IC) and control urothelial cells. Materials and Methods: Bladder biopsies were taken from IC patients and controls (women having surgery for stress incontinence). Primary cultures were grown in Keratinocyte Growth Medium with supplements. To induce differentiation, in some plates the medium was changed to DMEM-F12 with supplements. more...

Glucocorticoid Induced Changes in Gene Expression in Human Lens Epithelial Cells

(Submitter supplied) Prolonged use of glucocorticoids can lead to the formation of a cataract, however the mechanism is not known. We recently reported the presence of the functional glucocorticoid receptor in immortalized cultured mammalian lens epithelial cells (Gupta & Wagner, Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci 2003), but the short term biological effect of glucocorticoid action in lens epithelial cells is not known. This study seeks to examine glucocorticoid induced changes in global gene expression in LECs. more...

Glucocorticoid effect on lens epithelial cells: time course

Analysis of cultured immortalized lens epithelial cells (LEC) 4 and 16 hours after treatment with 1 uM dexamethasone, a glucocorticoid steroid hormone. Long-term glucocorticoid use can induce cataract formation. Results identify glucocorticoid targets and short-term effects of glucocorticoid on LECs

Gene expression profile of bladder tissue of patients with ulcerative interstitial cystitis

(Submitter supplied) Interstitial cystitis (IC), a chronic bladder disease with an increasing incidence, is diagnosed using subjective symptoms in combination with cystoscopic and histological evidence. The ultimate goal is the development of a diagnostic assay for IC on a molecular level. By cystoscopic examination, IC can be classified into an ulcerative and a non-ulcerative subtype. To better understand this debilitating disease on a molecular level, a comparative gene expression profile of bladder biopsies from patients with ulcerative IC and control patients has been performed. more...

Bronchial epithelial cell response to vanadium and zinc

Analysis of bronchial epithelial cells after 4 hours of exposure to 50 uM vanadium (V) or zinc (Zn). Excessive V and Zn in the air can arise from the burning of heavy fuel and during welding and smelting operations, respectively. Results identify biomarkers that distinguish V from Zn exposure.
