Gene expression profile after Spring Viraemia Carpae Virus (SVCV) infection in zebrafish mutants rag1 -/- versus wt

(Submitter supplied) Immune responses in higher vertebrates are classically separated into innate and adaptive (or specific) immunity. However, important gaps of knowledge about how adaptive responses are generated in lower vertebrates still remain unsolved. In order to explore the relative importance of adaptive and innate immune responses, we have studied zebrafish transcriptional responses to an infection with the Spring Viraemia of Carp virus (SVCV) in rag1-/- zebrafish mutants compared to wild type zebrafish by using both genome wide and immunological-targeted gene expression microarrays.

Deep sequencing of the innate immune transcriptomic response of zebrafish embryos to Salmonella infection

(Submitter supplied) Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. typhimurium) bacteria cause an inflammatory and lethal infection in zebrafish embryos. To characterize the embryonic innate host response at the transcriptome level, we have extended and validated previous microarray data by Illumina next-generation sequencing analysis. Comparison of tag-based sequencing (DGE or Tag-Seq) with full transcript sequencing (RNA-Seq) showed a strong correlation of sequence read counts per transcript and an overlap of 241 transcripts differentially expressed in response to infection. more...

RNAseq profiling of FACS-sorted zebrafish larval macrophages reveals similarities with human M1 and M2 transcriptome signatures

(Submitter supplied) We used different zebrafish transgenic lines to sort macrophages, neutrophils and immature lymphoid cells from 5-6 day old zebrafish larvae and analyzed their transcriptomes. Comparison between the different transcriptomes and gene ontology analysis revealed specificities for each cell population. Comparison with previously published data showed that zebrafish larval macrophages expressed several known human M1 and M2 macrophages. more...

Single-cell RNA sequencing unveils the hidden powers of zebrafish kidney for generating both hematopoiesis and adaptive antiviral immunity

(Submitter supplied) The vertebrate kidneys play two evolutionary conserved roles in waste excretion and osmoregulation. Besides, the kidney of fish is considered as a functional ortholog of mammalian bone marrow that serves as a hematopoietic hub for generating blood cell lineages and immunological responses. However, knowledge about the properties of kidney hematopoietic cells, and the functionality of kidney in fish immune systems remain to be elucidated. more...

Behavioural fever and its underlying molecular mechanisms

(Submitter supplied) Fever implies a significant increase in corporal temperature that aids toward the resolution of infective processes such as viral disease. The majority of vertebrate species are not homeothermic therefore must rely upon the environment for temperature regulation. Here we show that in the zebrafish an artificial viral infection, induced by poly (I:C), induces a fever response regulated by the behavioral choice of temperature. more...
