Summary Hepatic stellate cells and activated myofibroblasts display a high heterogeneity in healthy and fibrotic liver characterized by differential expression of collagens and chemokines.
 
Overall design Hepatic stellate cells and myofibroblasts were isolated from healthy and early fibrotic liver (3 weeks CCl4) and subjected to single cell RNA sequencing analysis. In vivo activated fibroblasts were then compared with in vitro generated.
