Title |
Global gene expression profiling of tissue engineered neofascia of hernia patients with good and bad healing characterisitics. |
Organism |
Homo sapiens |
Experiment type |
Expression profiling by array
|
Summary |
The prevalence of hernia after laparatomy has been estimated at 2-15%. Apart from male gender, smoking and obesity (BMI>25), increased age (>45 years) were identified as potential risk factors. To support the wound healing process, synthetic mesh is now routinely used in laparatomy. A patient's risk for hernia formation and relapse can be estimated by his/her collagen type I / collagen type III ratio using sirius red stains.

Overall design |
We generated global mRNA expression profiles from 4 good and 2 bad healers obtained from native tissue and bioreactor cultures in the presence of commercially available meshs.
