Treatment protocol Flies were flash frozen in liquid nitrogen.
Growth protocol Within 24 hours of eclosion, groups of 10 adult male flies were collected into vials containing standard cornmeal agar food and aged at 25C under 12 hours light and 12 hours dark. Flies were transferred to new food vial every 5 to 7 days.

Extraction protocol Trizol extraction of total RNA was performed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Label biotin
Label protocol Biotinylated cRNA were prepared according to the standard Affymetrix protocol from 250 ng total RNA (Gene Chip 3' IVT Express Kit USer Manual, Affymetrix). Labeling was carried out by a service provider (Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock Centre International Affymetrix Service, Loughborough, United Kingdom)
 
Hybridization protocol Following fragmentation, 12.5 ug of cRNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45C on GeneChip Drosophila_2 Genome 2.0 Array. GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 450. Hybridization was carried out by a service provider (Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock Centre International Affymetrix Service, Loughborough, United Kingdom)
Scan protocol Scanning was carried out by a service provider (Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock Centre International Affymetrix Service, Loughborough, United Kingdom)
Description Gene expression data from 45 day old adult male flies expressing mutant human SOD1 (G85R) in motoneurons and glia.
Data processing CEL files were imported into ROBIN v1.1.5 (http://mapman.gabipd.org) and, using the default settings, the data were normalized by RMA, and linear models for microarray data (limma) was selected as the analysis strategy.
