All muscle biopsies were taken under sterile conditions from the lateral portion of the m. vastus lateralis of the right leg using a fine-needle punch biopsy technique under local anesthesia (1% Meaverin). Snap-frozen muscle biopsy samples were homogenized with a TissueRuptor homogenizer (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany), and total RNA was extracted and purified using RNeasy Fibrous Tissue Mini kit and RNeasy Micro Kit (Qiagen).

Description |
Gene expression data from vastus lateralis muscle 3 hours min after acute exercise. All study participants absolved an acute exercise protocol that consisted of 60 min of high intensity cycling exercise on a cycle ergometer at a power requiring 80% of the individual VO2max (including 10 min of initial warm-up cycling at 60% VO2max). All exercise sessions were conducted in the morning (9:00 AM) after an overnight fast and after receiving a standardized breakfast (8:00 AM).

Raw intensity values were background corrected, Log2 transformed, quartile normalized and summarized using the RMA algorithm in Genomics Suite 6.6 (Partek).
