RNA was extracted from whole blood collected in Tempus tubes using the Tempus Spin RNA Isolation kit (Applied Biosystems). Total RNA was then globin-mRNA-depleted using GlobinClear kit (Ambion). Quality control was performed with Agilent Bioanalyser.
