microarray profiling of potential calorie restriction mimetics

(Submitter supplied) Mice and diets. One-month-old male mice of the long-lived B6C3F1 strain were purchased from Harlan (Indianapolis, IN) and maintained as described after weaning (15). Mice were housed in groups of 4 per cage and fed a non-purified diet, PMI Nutrition International Product #5001 (Purina Mills, Richmond, IN). At 5 months of age, the mice were individually housed, and randomly assigned to one of two groups, control (CON) or long-term CR (LTCR). more...

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...

Expression data of worms under different caloric restriction mimetic treatments

(Submitter supplied) We used microarray analysis to further our understanding of the mode of action of the well know caloric restriction mimetic rapamycin and the compound Allantoin first studied in the context of aging in this study. His work helps build on our understanding of potential caloric restriction mimetics predicted from our bioinformatic aproach of quering the Connectivity Map, a database of drug-induced gene expression profiles, using the transcriptional profile of CR to identify drugs that induce a similar or opposite gene expression profile.

Hepatic gene expression profiling of GH transgenic coho salmon with and without ration restriction

(Submitter supplied) This is the first use of cDNA microarrays to study the influence of GH transgenesis on liver gene expression in a non-mammalian vertebrate. Three groups of salmon were examined: transgenic on full ration (T), transgenic on restricted ration (R), and control nontransgenic (C). Daily weight gains in T were approximately 8-fold higher than in C, and 4-fold higher than in R. Differential gene expression in T, R, and C samples was determined using ~ 16,000 gene microarrays. more...
